I thought I would chat a little about food storage today, specifically why one might want to store food, secondly how to get started and list a couple of resources to get started with.
First of all there are probably as many reasons to have food storage as there are people living in your city but in reality the only reasons you need are the ones who sit at your table each night. After all it's because we want our families to be safe and comfortable when an unusual event occurs and happens to come our way. We usually can't anticipate when we will need to be more self reliant, we can't always depend on someone else or some government entity to come and save us in our time of need.
For example, everyone talks about Katrina, one of the biggest Hurricanes to hit the United States. This massive hurricane was being watched by the whole world for several days before it even made land fall. Two days before it hit they were predicting how strong the winds would be, where it would hit and for people to prepare for the worst. Even with warnings being shouted from the roof tops we couldn't prepare in time. People were not evacuated efficiently. Shelters where not adequate, food was not to be had and water was everywhere but nary a drop to drink. And worst of all many people refused to leave.
In the wake of a disaster such as this we always feel like we have dodged a bullet but was it enough of a warning to motivate us to action? Apparently not. Literally MILLIONS of people are no more prepared for trouble than they were before that disaster. Will the gubamint be able to help everyone when the next disaster hits and do you want to depend on them getting the buses to you?
What about the people who suffered in the latest cold snap, the worst winter weather in more than 50 or 60 years. Will anyone be more prepared next year? Will anyone have made a plan for next year to have a little more firewood, will there be water stored in the basement to boil rice or soup with; who knows the pipes might freeze and break.
Well if you feel you would like to be prepared for even a small disaster you might be asking yourself where do I begin and what do I really need. If you can plan for what you really need you can save money by not getting things you don't need. Here are some great places to start your search.
1. The American Red Cross has an emergency preparedness site:
2. The LDS Church has some good tips for shorter term storage as well as for very long term items, methods and locations to purchase.
3. How about a Survival Blog
If you search a little you will find so many resources you won't believe it. You will soon realise there is a giant movement you may have never even heard of.
After browsing some of these you might still feel overwhelmed so lets break it down a little.
Water:
Start off with three days of water per person. How much is that? Well don't just think about water to drink, although that is the most critical, you also need to have water to cook with and even clean utensils with. So I would say 1 to 2 gallons per day. Check out what the Red Cross recommends. There are many people who own water filtration devices. I would recommend something that filters bacteria and protozoa like giardia.
Food:
Try to have extra cans of beans, stew, soups. Canned fruits are great for their nutritional value and the liquid they contain. There are some great dehydrated soups out there that are actually pretty low cost and a small bag will make a gallon of soup. Once you start to think in this manner you will start to notice items in the store you have never even looked at before.
I've personally used Emergency Essentials for my food storage. I trust them, the prices are very competitive and their service is top notch.
Medical:
You can either buy or build your own medical kit. Find a kit that can take care of most small cuts and scrapes as well as something that can stop severe bleeding and perhaps a sewing kit for stitching up a deep wound. Additionally, you will need something to sterilize your hands and the wound.
Clothing:
If its summer time and you are putting together some clothing to have on hand don't forget to pack away some warm clothing, extra socks and gloves. Think about something to keep the rain and snow off of you as well.
Shelter:
You can of course go nuts in all of these categories but one of the the most expensive single items will be a good tent. Be careful and consider what you think might be required. Do you think you might need a tent for a week or a month? What about a year? The tent you have in mind might not be able to handle more than a season of use due to the lack of UV resistance.
Cooking and Heating:
If you might need to heat that tent then what will you do, will you have to build fires or will you have hundreds of gallons of propane? There are some awesome but not cheap tents that will support a wood burning stove which can be used for cooking and heating. I would go to some major outdoor stores like Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops.

Ok Time for a Redo
I haven't posted on this thing since before 2008 election, just because I guess, I don't have a reason that's for sure.
On a serious note, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and I can't say its all been good, perhaps a lot has not been good, in my humble opinion.
But lets stop for a second and take stock of what we have here in America. We are blessed with so much living in this great country. We have problems right now but this people are the greatest on earth and we always prevail.
We will take back what has been diminished, we will restore respect for the rule of law and remove the perversion of it. The majority will rule and common sense prevail.

More on the 2nd Amendment
Many of us are responsible gun owners who feel that the 2nd Amendment is a right we were wisely given and, for the most part of us, vow to defend.
The vast majority of gun owners respect life and liberty and will never ever abuse either. The proven fact is more people die from other causes than death from a firearm. This link has the statistics for your review from a 2003 study.
Additionally, the media insists that when there are gun shows in town the crime rate skyrockets, have a look here for a 2008 study just released showing this is a myth.
It's almost a cliche but if they take the guns away from the responsible gun owner only the bad guys will have guns. It will be like ducks in a barrel for them. Secondly, and more to the point as far as the second amendment is concerned the militia referenced therein is actually the last life of defense for freedom when a government has gone off the rails and seeks tyranny as a solution to it's problems.
Shall "We the People" give up that most important of responsibilities? Don't let the Kool-Aid drinkers talk you out of it, stand your ground, speak your mind and defend the weak and vulnerable.
Defend the Constitution and Preserve the Sovereignty of this Great Nation.

Please Go to this Link

I've got a link here that pretty much sums up the things I've written. There are multiple links on the page that are frankly very frightening. I hope it's all bluster but I figure you can come to you're own conclusions.
http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2008/10/manifesto-of-silenced-majority.html
On another note I'd like to remind all the Obamanites that his wonderful tax cuts will actually become null and void as soon as he lets the currently in effect Bush tax cuts expire soon after the first of the year. So in other words all of us who are making less than $250K and expecting an Obama tax cut will really be disappointed when our taxes go up again. What a liar. I think it's safe to say Obama is a liar.
Obama is the farthest left political figure to ever run for President. He is a pure Socialist and had signed agreements with the Chicago Socialist party back in 2006 (I've may be wrong on the year).
There is a notion floating around the net that Obama wants to fund a new civilian Home Land security force. This is probably a false accusation. The idea that he would want a special "civilian" force to be in charge of Home Land Security is the most frightening thing I have heard of since Hitler launched the SS or Sadaam's henchmen Republican Guard. Would this force report to the President directly? Will the citizens of this great land have to give up their right to bear arms? We will be at the mercy of a megalomaniac.
In reality he is probably calling for people to join is AmeriCorps, EnergyCorps agencies.
But just in case let it be known that I for one will not give up my weapon. I cannot in good conscience do it. As I've said I have sworn an oath to the Constitution of the United States of America. When our Civil Rights become diminished it will be time to stand up for them without debate. There should be no questions, no wondering and no wishy washy banter. We will all need to assert ourselves in a peaceful manner but with a united voice. Our cry to restore the Constitution and the Bill of Rights would be heard around the world.
A Vote for McCain is a vote for liberty and the Constitution of the United States that we are proud of.

Obama Review
I think it's time to review the Obama qualifications and experience, in no particular order:
1. Economy - NONE to speak of. Has not had to manage companies or businesses, or political entities from a budgetary perspective. Other than being on the board of directors with William Ayers. I'm sure there were some buget matters to review and approve, however, he was not the approving authority.
2. Legislative Sponsor -
Illinois State Bill to video tape police questioning of suspects (sponsor)
Illinois State Tax Bill revising earned income credit. (supported or co-sponsored)
Illinois State Bill revising campaign finance disclosure.
(Interestingly enough he refuses to disclose his current donations until after the election.
)
In the US Senate he sponsored three bills that passed and were signed into law. These were good pieces of legislation but there were about 149 others that did not pass muster. I recommend you browse through them and decide for yourself if they merit any real value. I do feel that some do. Many others do not! Flat out.

Personally, I don't feel that 3 passed Federal bills indicates a wealth of legislation or experience.
3. Foreign Relations - NONE - he went to Europe last summer. Remember this was NOT a campaign trip. That would have broken campaign rules. Thats it. He's a sure bet for solid foreign relations, obviously.
4. Abortion - Completely supports abortion at all levels including Partial Birth Abortion. I feel this is the most damning issue in his quiver and the whole Country will be held accountable for it. It is so hideous I cannot describe it here, due to the way the baby is killed. But let me summarily say that in order for it not to be murder (in the eyes of the law) they hold the babies feet inside the mother so as not to allow the baby to be "technically" born so it can be "terminated". For society to accept this is beyond belief. I'm sure it's more a matter of education. If anyone really knew they would not allow it. How can our lawmakers approve of such a thing? We are not going to make it!
5. His sympathies for radicals and terrorists are serious enough that a young man, if trying to enter the service, would be disallowed.

Some Thoughts
Today I want to re-iterate what was mentioned today on a radio talk show, El Rushbo if you must know.
What was interesting is the reference to Joe Plumber and how much scrutiny and personal attack he has had directed towards him. To the point where the press has brought up tax and licensing records. Why in the name of all thats good can't we get that kind of response when we question things like Obama's associations with people like -
1. William Ayers - known and unrepentant terrorist (along with his wife who actually murdered someone).
2. Louis Ferrakhan - who's number one objective is the realization of an All Black state. He is as racist as they come.
3. ACORN - not much more to say at this point. The press is not reporting on this too much but the FBI is investigating because it appears to cross several state lines. We do know that he did not answer McCain's stinging volley of questions about his association with ACORN (and Ayers). He only deflected it.
4. Jerimiah Wright - you know about his association with this guy.
=== New Subject ====
This subject is more serious than Obama's friendly radical associations. We need to review three of the Bill of Rights, otherwise known as the First Ten Amendments to the Constitution.
In my mind the Constitution of the United States is the Holy of Holies of almost all Governmental documents in history. There are some other great documents such as the Magna Carta (1215 AD) that outlined what were considered rights for individuals. This document for example first outlined the writ of Habeus Corpus; helping to deter unlawful imprisonment.
There are 3 amendments I would like to bring up here.
1. The first - freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, right to petition
2. The second - the right to bear arms - "shall not be infringed"
3. The fourth - to be protected from unreasonable search and seizure
I feel some of these rights are in danger of being appealed. Perhaps not all of them at the same time but slowly we will lose a right, soon thereafter a second and then later a third.
The first two to go will be the fourth and second amendments. I say that these two are in danger is because the Liberals want to repeal our right to bear arms. Subsequently in order for that to happen there will be a blanket order to seize all of our weapons without a warrant specifically for an individual. It will simply take too long to get warrants for everyone that doesn't line up like sheep and drop off a gun at the local police station.
Once the second amendment is discarded by the socialists they can start working on those who speak against them, they will control the press, lawful assembly will be curtailed, which will have an effect on religion. Since we won't have a voice to speak out The Right to Petition will also be inhibited.
I know these ideas sound very radical. But think about how fragile we have become.
Remember that there are very very many people who want guns outlawed.
Remember that Obama has declared that he would support the outlawing and seizure of our arms. Remember that there are many many of us who do not want a socialist society beyond what I would call the healthy party differences we have had in the past. What we are experiencing now is a full on assault on a conservative government.
Remember that once you get someone in power who becomes this powerful and this far left that people will become giddy with their winning. They will have given most of their trust over to one and the once slippery slope is a full on slip and slide.
All the bad guys talk a good game. What kind of character to they possess?
I am not suggesting anything unlawful, but I am sending a voice of warning. Talk with your families, talk with your friends. You must become active. Get them to vote their conscience. Get them to vote for someone who will uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.
